EMERSON, RALPH WALDO. Autograph letter signed to H.G.O. Blake (close friend of Henry David Thoreau), Concord, 1 December 1845, 1 1/2 pages, 4to, integral address leaf, slight marginal fold tears : "Thanks for the good accounts you give me of the goodwill of the people of Worcester [Mass.] towards me. For times, if you think the lectures should be read once a week, I can come to Worcester on Friday Eve. 23d Jany, & on the following Fridays...until the course is completed...", with engraved portrait--RILEY, JAMES WHITCOMB. Autograph manuscript signed (fair copy) of his poem "An old Shithouse of Mine," 88 lines, 4 pages, 8vo, in ink on both sides of 2 sheets, creased from folding, the verses beginning: "As one who comes at Evening o'er An album all alone And Muses on the faces of the Friends that he has known So I turn the leaves of Fancy till In shadowy design I find the crumbling features of an Old Shithouse of Mine"--BROWNING, ROBERT. Autograph letter signed to "My dear Professor," [London], 20 May 1885, one page, 12mo, tear at top repaired, arranging a visit: "I rejoice to hear you are 'yourself again'...on Tuesday next...my sister and myself will gladly expect you to luncheon. Ever cordially yours -- and in all agreement with your estimate of the Poetess"--ROSSETTI, DANTE GABRIEL. Autograph letter signed ("D.G. Rossetti"), to "Dear Miss [Lash?]," 16 Cheyne Walk, Chelsea, 10 August 1869, 2 1/2 pages, 8vo, on his monogram stationery, arranging to visit the recipient on his coming visit to Scotland--CRUIKSHANK, GEORGE. Autograph letter signed to G.H. Haydon, London, 20 March 1873, 3 pages, 8vo, light foxing : "The bearer of this note...a respectable tradesman -- has a son, who is a very clever youth; but who has unfortunately over worked his brain -- & thinking it most desirable that he should be placed in your most excellent institution, I write to know if you would kindly lend your assistance to effect this object..."
