[Emblems] KRUL, Jan Harmensz Pampiere wereld ofte Wereldsche oeffeninge, waer in begrepen zijn meest alle de Rijmen, en Werken [...] in vier deelen. Amsterdam, Widow of Jan Jacobsz. Schipper, 4 parts in 1 vol., 4to: [front.-12]-447-[pp. (damp stains, an occasional tear). Contemp. vellum (a bit soiled). 3rd edition (1st: 2nd: 1644-by the Dutch poet and playwright J. H. Krul (1601-1646). These collected works include enlarged versions of his emblem books "Minne-spiegel ter deughden" (and "Minne-beelden" (1634). Engr. ill.: front. and ill. in text. including many emblems and, on p. the famous print, longtime ascribed to Rembrandt, but now commonly attributed to Ferdinand Bol The 4 chapters deal with the core human drives, love, worldly power and youth. Accordingly, the frontispiece shows a loving couple, a money-changer, the vanquished war god Mars and a music teacher around the apple of the world. Ref.
