Housed in a custom two-shelf bookcase with locking glass-paneled door (with key), green faux-marbled painted finish, "Temple of the Muses" in gilt at the top of the door. Each volume adorned with a lovely fore-edge painting of a scene in the English countryside. A charming set in all aspects, from the purpose-built case, to the fine bindings, to the wonderful fore-edge paintings. Lot Amendments Condition: The finish to the case appears to be of a more recent vintage; spines a bit sunned, some light wear, early owner's name in each volume; light foxing; very good.
