EINSTEIN, ALBERT. Autograph letter signed ("Papa") to Hans Albert Einstein, n.p., 7 March 1924. 1 page, 4to, 280 x 220 mm. (11 x 9 in.), four tiny staple punctures in blank margins . "SCIENCE IS A DIFFICULT PROFESSION" A letter in which Einstein alludes to the difficulty of explaining his work to laymen: "My research of the last years is totally unsuitable for a popular lecture and I have a horror of that kind of public appearance." He notes that the Nobel prize award has been set aside for a house for Mileva and the boys. Einstein plans to stop in Zurich on his return from a trip to Naples, and looks forward to seeing them. He reports that he is working hard but does not seem to have accomplished much. "Science is a difficult profession. I'm sometimes happy that you have chosen a practical metier, where one doesn't have to search for four-leaf clovers." Einstein had ambiguous feelings about Hans Albert's decision to become a hydraulics engineer, but was pleased that his son had chosen an apparently fulfilling career.
