1. Ein Yisrael. Part 1, Brachot-Chagiga. Agadot Chazal from the Babylonian and Yerushalmi Talmud, with commentaries, by Rabbi Ya'akov ben Shlomo Ebn-Chaviv. Salonika, [1595?]. On verso of title page long inscription in early Yemenite handwriting. 2. Beit Yisrael. Part 2, Yevamot-Uktzin, with a number of novella and sources by the proofreader, Rabbi Yehuda Biga. Salonika, [c. 1600]. Few notes in tiny nice handwriting [Yemen?]. To pass censor the name Ein Ya'akov was changed to other names, as of the Venice 1566 edition. 2 volumes: 216 leaves; 193, 16 leaves. 29-29.5 cm. Fair condition. Stains and tears. Moth damage. In Part 1: Title page and last leaves are damaged. Non-original bindings. Vinograd (Salonika 162) writes that Part 1 was printed in 1601: The printer Matatia Bat Sheva died at the end of 1601, and on the title page he is mentioned with the blessing of life. Part 2 is especially rare. The Bibliography Institute CD state that they saw only a copy with missing leaves at the end, and this copy is complete. Some of the sections (leaves 21-40) have been printed with slight typographic differences. From Dr. Israel Mehlman's private collection.
