Text: xii, 322 pp., plate volume: 143 engraved plates on 142 sheets [1-141, with 20 bis and 54 bis, plates 4 and 5 on the same sheet], including five maps and twelve diagrams of temples. Bindings with shelf wear and scuffing, tear to the head of the text volume, the atlas volume lacking the spine, internally an exceptionally fresh copy on heavy paper, with virtually none of the foxing that often affects this book. A remarkable series of plates of great importance to Egyptology. Denon accompanied Bonaparte's expedition to Egypt, and the present series of plates are among the great artistic achievements of that campaign.
