One with "Yer haint seen my borril apple sass, has ye;" the other, "Jes so; jes so; Mr. Winslow." Both of these refer to "Solon Shingle and his Great Apple-sass Case," which is described on the print held at the Library of Congress, American Song Sheet collection, as "A characteristic ditty - As performed by John W. Owens in the celebrated American comedy 'The People's Lawyer,' at the Broadway Theatre, New York." Cdv of a "hag," with penciled note on verso "Charlotte Cushman in Meg Merrilees." Also with Anthony backmark. Cdv of two players moving chess pieces (some of which look like them), with pencil note on verso "The Game of Life." J. Gurney backmark. Scrapbook, lacking covers, 8 x 10 in. With hundreds of theater programs, plus miscellaneous clippings (many single sentence quotes), a few cartoons, etc. Very few are dated, but one dated 1882 is found about a quarter of the way in. The last page has one dated 1894. The following scrapbook probably continues. Two cabinet cards of Clara Louise Kellogg in different costumes, 19th century singer, one pencil note says "Rosina" and one "Riston." Both with Gureny & Son backmarks. Scrapbook, 3/4 leather over marbled paper heavy boards, 9.5 x 12 in., with schedules for hundreds of operas, plays, music (for ex., performances of Handel's Messiah) around New York at the turn of the century. The first is dated 1894. In the back are schedules for the Grand Opera Season of 1910-1911. Over 300 affixed to pages, plus 125 loose in back. For the Metropolitan Opera House, Lyceum Theatre, Carnegie Hall, Broadway Theatre, plus many smaller venues - American, 5th Avenue, Empire, Knickerbocker Theatres, and more. Condition: Cdvs and cabinet cards very good. Scrapbooks a bit rough. First with insect damage throughout, no boards. Second OK, front board separated, pages a bit toned.
