English and French parallel explanatory text in double-column. Contemporary panelled full calf, partly rubbed and worn on spines and edges, some inner joints partly split or starting, vol. Collation: (6), 108; (11), xxxv, 109-220; (8), vii, 221-347 pp. The plates show different kinds of birds, decorated with plants, butterflies and beetles. There are also plates showing monkeys, fish, zebras, elephant etc. The Gleanings, often found with Edwards' A Natural History of Uncommon Birds, is "one of the most important of all Bird Books, both as a Fine Bird Book and as a work of Ornithology.
