Half titles, 6 engraved plates, 2 folding, 3 plates printed in colour, folding facsimile letter, folding engraved map. Contemporary pictorial publisher's cloth gilt, uncut (rubbed, spine of vol. II with long tear, cloth also split along front joint). FIRST EDITION. CUNNINGHAM, Joseph Davey. History of the Sikhs, from the origin of the Nation to the battles of the Sutlej , London: John Murray 1849. 8° (223 x 141mm). Half title, engraved frontispiece map coloured in outline, folding engraved map, partly hand-coloured, folding letterpress table. (Occasional marginal light thumb-soiling.) Contemporary cloth, uncut (spine lightly faded, head and tail chipped, rubbed). Provenance : Signet Library (written in ink on front cover and on pastedown). FIRST EDITION. With 3 other books including Lieut.-Colonel Steinbach's The Punjab; being a brief account of the country of the Sikhs (London, 1845). (6)
