Rutherford was president of the Association in 1923, and also at the time of the address president of the Royal Society. Provenance: Sir Ernest Rutherford (1871-1937), typed letter signed by the private secretary of the Prince of Wales, stating "The Prince of Wales desires me to send you with his best wishes, the enclosed copy of his Presidential address... which he has autographed", dated 9 August 1926, tipped into volume; R.S. Creed, ownership inscription, Oxford, December 1937. Creed was a student of Nobel prize winner Charles Sherrington, with whom he presented a paper (on Flexor muscles) to the Royal Society in November 1926, with Rutherford in the Chair as President.
