EDWARD III (1312-1377), King of England . Document on vellum, letters patent, Tower of London, 2 May 1337, a licence to Johanna Buttecourt to grant her manor of Werneley, Worcestershire, held of the King, to the Abbot and monastery of Halesowen in perpetual alms to endow three canon chaplains to pray for the good health of the King and Johanna during their life and for their souls after their death, and those of their antecedents and descendants and of all the faithful departed, six candles of the value of one mark to be burned on her obit, together with a 'pitancia' [monastic allowance] of one mark, and 20 shillings to be distributed to the poor, issued by writ of the Privy Seal, subscibed with the name of the chancery clerk 'Evesh[am]', 19 lines in a cursive documentary script, opening initial left blank, one membrane, approx. 195 x 280mm, substantial fragment of the Great Seal in green wax, approx. 100 x 70mm, pendant on silk cords, framed and glazed.
