Edward, Duke of Windsor & Wallis Duchess of Windsor Original log book of the yacht ‘Frixos’ compiled by Skipper Joseph Victor Barden, covering the period between February 1st 1934 to June 18th, 1940, providing an account of the voyages of the owner, Nicholas Zographos, around the French Riviera, also reporting the summer holiday undertaken by the Duke and Duchess of Windsor in June 1938 (“H.R.H Duke and Duchess of Windsor joined at Antibes at 1pm. Trip along the coast , lunch and tea on board between Islands, disembarked H.R.H. at Cannes 6.15 pm”, 5 June; “the Duke and Duchess joined at 2pm. Left for St. Tropez direct. Anchored at St. Tropez 6pm. Mr and Mrs Rogers arrived with Angelique 6.30pm and anchored alongside Frixos and joined H.R. H. for Aperitive, Cocktail etc. Dinner en ville. The Duke and Duchess slept on board for the night”, 11 June; “Mr and Mrs Rogers joined H.R.H for lunch on board. The Duke and Duchess do their own cooking and prepare lunch. H.R.H left Frixos by car with Mr and Mrs Rogers”, 12 June; H.R.H. the Duke and Duchess joined at Antibes at 2.15pm. Their Highnesses slept on board at M.Carlo. The Duke and Duchess left for the Chateau 5.55pm”, 18-19June; “Lunch on board, the Duke bathes”, 25 June; “Left Cannes for Antibes 10.30am. Their Highnesses joined at 2.30pm. Slowly around the Chateau for photos then to island St. Margarite, lunch then dinner on board – bathing” 26 June) and a few other excursions attended by Edward and Wallis, the last mentioning of them being a brief note dated 8 September 1939 “H.R.H. left Cannes for England?”, several blanks, light internal yellowing, original boards with label, tall 4to; also including two photographs Wallis and Edward individually, each signed in ink and annotated in another’s hand “Frixos 1938” and nine unsigned candid photos of the couple and the yacht, light handling wear; with a selection of newspapers from the same period (16)
