East Indies.- [Dellon (Charles)] Relation de l'Inquisition de Goa, second edition, title with engraved device, 3 engraved head-pieces and 6 plates by Vermeulen after Sevin, 3 folding, one shaved at foot with loss to names but not affecting image, slight marginal staining to title and following leaf, contemporary calf, spine gilt, rubbed, corners worn and spine ends chipped, 12mo, Paris, Daniel Horthemels, 1688. ⁂ The author was a French physician who fell into the hands of the Inquisition while travelling in the East Indies and later wrote this account of his experiences, which included imprisonment and torture. It was first published in Leiden the previous year (without plates) but placed on the Index in May 1690.
