.22 R.F. caliber, 28" octagonal barrel, S/N 1761. Matching numbers throughout. Frame marked with Marlin name, address and patent date, plus Ballard's patent date. With additional patent date on the hammer. Blade front sight with split dovetail rear sight. Flat top receiver, with correct plunger style extractor. Tapered walnut forend with horn wedge, and walnut butt with crescent buttplate. An early rifle made before the firm settled on the final design. This is the earliest serial number reported. Condition: The barrel has nearly all of the original blue finish remaining, with a small are of light fading on the right side. The frame, hammer and breechblock still retain most of their original case colors. The stock and forearm are in very good to excellent condition, with only a few slight handling marks. The bore and action are excellent.
