horn typical of York County style, but turning and carvings are more elaborate. Exterior length of base plug is 1.6". Upper band of decoration has carved chain molding 0.2" wide. Carved rope molding ring decorates the bottom area of the base plug. Recessed cavity in the base to house the staple strap. Typical dual parallel lines are cut around the bottom of the horn. Base plug is attached to the horn by six wooden pegs. Neck with two inscribed parallel lines with the strap staple attached at this point. 2.8" long screw tip. Funnel with four stepped ring turnings and three set of decorative double lines scribed around the funnel at the tip. Horn is a yellow orange in color from its bottom edge to the neck area - where the brown black mottling begins. Approximately 6" of old strap remains on each brad. Overall length 13.5"; 2.8" diameter. Provenance: Ex. Estate of Merle E. Campbell, Past President of the Kentucky Rifle Association Condition: Horn is in very good condition with wear showing. Long-time use is evident in the area where the horn rubbed against the owner's side.
