ca 1892-1900. Ricasso is acid-etched in four lines running parallel with the blade Springfield/Armory/Springfield, Mass/ USA. 34" blade with etched panels of military trophies. Left side with U.S. right side with E. Pluribus Unum. Shagreen handle with brass wire wrap. Brass hilt and guard. Metal scabbard with brass fittings. Complete with gold bullion saber knot. Condition: Shagreen handle is in excellent condition with no scuffs or tears. Brass hilt has nicely tarnished. Blade retaining most of the nickel plating with some light flaking. Etched panels are very clear and the markings are very legible. Scabbard retains most of its original plating. Brass fittings have turned to a dull look. Small cavity present from where the original carrying ring once was. One of the brass carrying rings on the scabbard has been relocated backward ca 4". This is a ca 1902 arsenal modification due to the creation of a new saber hanger on which hooks were closer together.
