Errata leaves at end of each volume. 4 lithographed plates on india paper mounted, as issued; folding table (first plate cropped along right edge, some mostly pale spotting.) (18/4 in vol. 2 with paper flaws affecting some letters.) Contemporary Spanish calf-backed marbled boards (some light rubbing). Provenance : Gomez Farriao (signature on front free endpaper). FIRST EDITION. Duhaut-Cilly was a French trader who arrived at Yerba Buena from Mazatlan in January 1827. He traversed the coast of California aboard his ship the Héros , visiting nearly all the missions, presidios and pueblos. He also visited Valparaiso, the Galápagos Islands, Hawaii, Macao and Java. He was accompanied by Dr. Paolo Emilio Botta, who later gained fame as an archaeologist. Included are lithographs of San Francisco, San Luis Rey Fort Ross and Oahu.
