DRESSER, Henry Eeles. A History of the Birds of Europe, including all the species inhabiting the Western Palaearctic Region . London: by the author, 1871-1896. 9 volumes including index (volume I) and supplement (volume IX), large 4° (320 x 250mm.), additional pictorial titles and 723 lithographed plates all, except 2, coloured by hand, after Thorburn, Keulemans, Neale and Wolf, 5pp. list of subscribers (foremargin of page 81/82 torn and crudely repaired). Tan half morocco gilt, t.e.g. by Sotheran, (supplement similarly bound by Period Binders), Presentation copy from Henry Seebohm (1823-95) to the Boys School, York, with autograph inscription in volume I "...this work is by far the best book which has hitherto appeared on European Birds, and is one which no ornithologist can do without - London,. 5 April 1882", and minor corrections throughout.
