For Dresden's carnival of February 7, 1695, AUGUSTUS II "The Strong" (1670-1733), King of Poland and Elector of Saxony, presented a pageant of the gods that went through the streets of Dresden. The plates of this "parade of the gods," depict elaborate chariots, costumes and participants representing Pluto, Juno, Jupiter, Saturn, Mars, Bacchus, Apollo and many others.
