The four parts are as follows: Sir Francis Drake Revived describes the privateering voyages of 1570-71 and 1572-73 to the West Indies, including the raid on Nombre de Dios in 1572, where Drake and his men captured a fortune in Spanish silver, and struck at the heart of the Spanish New World empire. The World Encompassed was compiled by Francis Drake, nephew of the explorer, and narrates Drake's circumnavigation of 1577-1580: with five vessels under his command he raided Spanish settlements and supply routes on the Pacific coast, staked a claim to California (or "New Albion") for the British crown and then returned via the Pacific and Indian Oceans. Drake was the first English captain to circumnavigate the globe. A Summarie and True Discourse of Sir Francis Drakes West Indian Voyage describes the voyage of 1585-86. Drake's expedition to the Spanish Indies was the first major British naval foray to challenge the authority of the Spanish in the Caribbean. In addition to attacking various Spanish targets, Drake also rescued the remaining colonists on Raleigh's Roanoke Island Virginia colony, returning them to England along with a shipment of potatoes and tobacco. A Full Relation of Another Voyage to the West Indies gives an account of his last voyage to the West Indies in 1595-1596, during which Drake died.
