Arthur Dobbs was not satisfied with the results of the Admiralty expedition lead by Christopher Middleton (1741-42) and sent William Moor and Francis Smith in the Dobbs and the California to re-examine Wager Bay. The expedition overwintered at the Hudson Bay Company's York factory. The author was first identified as Theodore Swaine Drage by John R. Forster and also credited him as author of The Great Probability of a Northwest Passage . A convincing case that he and Charles Swaine (commander of the Argo ) are the same man is made by E.S. Dodge.
