One Man's Initiation - 1917.
London: Allen and Unwin, (1920). 8vo. Original blue cloth stamped in black in printed dust jacket; custom folding cloth case. Condition: light offsetting to endpapers; short closed splits at ends of jacket folds. Provenance: Henry Tatnall Brown, Jr. first edition, first issue, presentation copy with tipped in als from dos passos. A tale drawn from the author's experience while an ambulance driver with the French Army during the summer of 1917. Inscribed "To Henry Tatnall Brown, Jr./truly/John Dos Passos/" on the endpaper. Tipped onto the first blank is a holograph letter from Dos Passos to Tatnall Brown making arrangements for the former to send along his books for signing. Henry Tatnall Brown, Jr. was a Haverford collector who early on amassed a fine collection of inscribed books by authors, recognizing the value such would hold for future generations of collectors.
