standard Spalding Official National League (Warren Giles) ball bearing presentation inscription in blue ink To Don My Very Best Wishes Don Drysdale and in another hand in black ink is inscribed Shutout No. 6 June 4 1968. Ball is accompanied by a letter of authenticity explaining the acquisition of this piece, written and signed by Richard M. Thorup, brother of Don Thorup, Sports Editor for the Alhambra, California Post Advocate Newspaper. Don Thorup asked Drysdale to sign one of the balls that he used in the June 4th 1968 game between the L.A. Dodgers and Pittsburgh Pirates, a shutout at 5-0, the sixth consecutive shutout game pitched by Drysdale. Lot also includes a photocopy of his June 5th newspaper account of the game. Ball is housed in a plastic protective case. Don Drysdale (1936-1993) HOF 1984, was one of the most dominant pitchers of his era. He, along with Sandy Koufax, anchored the pitching staff of those great Dodger teams of the 1960s. The consecutive shutout record of (6) games is yet to be broken to this day.
