Extr. rare Latin funeral verse by Orazio Candido of Lodi on the death of Don Carlos (1545-1568), eldest son and heir-apparent of Philip II of Spain. The long poem is compl. in itself (ending on a blank page), but other copies have 2 more ff. with a similar poem on Elisabeth of Valois (1545-1568), who was originally betrothed to Don Carlos, but got unexpectedly married to Philip II as his 3rd wife. She became the mother of Infanta Isabella Clara Eugenia (1566-1633). The poem is dedicated to Cardinal Joannes Paulus (Gianpaolo Della Chiesa, 1521-1575). Woodcut Spanish royal arms on title.
