Provenance : Marion Bruère 'Pat' Quin (b.1864, author's inscription) -- Sir Ian Zachary Malcolm of Poltalloch (1868-1944, armorial bookplate; sale, 11 April 1938, lot 32 to Maggs) -- [sale, California Book Auctions, 14 February 1991, lot 22] FIRST EDITION, PRESENTATION COPY INSCRIBED BY DODGSON: 'Marion Quin, with the Author's Love. July 13, 1897'. The Quins were cousins of Dodgson, and Marion Quin is mentioned several times in his diaries, and often used his Eastbourne rooms. Her sister, Minna Quin, took to the stage with Dodgson's support as 'Norah O'Neill'. This copy was later in the library of the writer and politician, Sir Ian Malcolm. WMGC described this as 'a most interesting volume, consisting of a facsimile of the first draft of Alice's Adventures in the Author's hand, and [with] illustrations by him' (p.144).
