(Doctor Charles).- Holden Bone (Sir Muirhead) A portfolio of drawings given to his close friend, the architect Dr Charles Holden many carrying personal dedications to Charles and his wife, Margaret, including views of Constantinople and the Bosphorus, the mountains of Leon, Spain, a portrait of Margaret and 3 of Charles playing musical instruments, a larger ink drawing of farm buildings at Nup End, Knebworth, architectural sketches of Gt. Portland Street, Brompton Oratory, St. James's Church, ornament at Waterloo, others of Oxford, Glasgow, Hampton Court, Westminster Cathedral, other landscapes and figure studies, also another pencil portrait of the Scottish architect, Stanley Hamp, by Holden, 26 drawings, variously in pencil, charcoal and ink, a few with wash or coloured crayon, also a small etching of a steamship, v.s., many signed, initialled and inscribed, loose in portfolio; with 9 copies of 'La Riscossa Latina', a newspaper for the Italian community in Glasgow, most featuring illustration by Sir Muirhead Bone various issues, 1909; with a photogravure of Bone's sons, Stephen and Gavin, signed and dated 1910, and 3 photographs of drawings by Gavin Bone. *** Provenance: the estate of the late Dr Charles Holden (1875-1960), architect, most noted for his station designs for London Underground.
