DISNEY STUDIOS, Walt (1901-1966)]. The Adventures of Mickey Mouse. Book I . Philadelphia: David McKay, 1931. Small 4 o . Numerous color illustrations in text. Original pictorial boards, decorated endpapers; pictorial dust jacket. FIRST EDITION, in the rarer board binding and with the VERY SCARCE DUST JACKET. This is generally regarded as the first Mickey Mouse, and marks Donald Duck's first appearance in print. [Laid-in:] letter from Walt Disney Studions stating "We would imagine that the smaller, dust-jacketed copy is probably the first [binding variant], since it is a little more elaborate. With the success of the book McKay may then have gone to the sturdier buckram-type binding with the pasted-on illustration [and later the flexible boards, see following lot]".
