Lucebert (1924-1994) Untitled (1979) Signed and dated '79.XII.6 lower left Mixed media on paper, 70 x 100 cm Provenance: Private collection, the Netherlands Note: Lucebert (Lubertus Jacobus Swaanswijk) was a Dutch artist who first became known as the poet of the CoBrA movement. Already at an early age he was interested in both literature and art, with a fascination for German romantic poetry, modern painting (Picasso, Klee, Ernst) and comic strips. The influence of the latter can still be clearly seen in the caricatural and cartoon-like nature of his drawings and paintings. He won four impressive oeuvre prizes for his poetry, and his line of verse “alles van waarde is weerloos” (everything of value is defenceless) is part of the collective memory of the Dutch. Yet his poetry does not outshine his visual work. Lucebert’s paintings and drawings are still regularly exhibited in museums and part of renowned international collections. * Condition report available upon request

Mogens Balle (1921-1988) Komposition Signed with initials lower left Oil on panel, 33.6 x 22.5 cm Provenance: Private collection, the Netherlands Note: Born in Copenhagen, Mogens Balle began his education by studying architecture but soon decided to focus on the visual arts instead. When he travelled to Paris in 1946, he met fellow Danish artist Asger Jorn who introduced him to the international artist movement CoBrA. Balle's style evolved from naturalistic to his personal style, characterized by abstract colouristic tendencies combined with figure associations. From the early 1960s onward, his work became increasingly abstract, losing the figurative associations. It was during these years that Balle took part in the annual 'Majudstillingen' (May exhibitions), a Danish artist association exhibit for experimental art, active from 1953 to 1971. Balle's work is part of the collections of many international museums, such as The Cobra-Museum, The Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, The KUNSTEN Museum of Modern Art, and Center de la Gravure et de l'Image imprimée, among others. * Condition report available upon request
