Dighton the Elder (Robert), attributed to. Family group portrait in an interior, pencil on laid paper, bears signature lower left, mounted on laid paper support with slightly indistinct watermark date of '1797', with double ruled border, 180 x 290 mm. (7 1/8 x 11 1/2 in), under glass, repaired tears and some areas of abrasion, damp-stained and light browning, unframed, [circa 1780-1800s] Provenance: Ex-collection of David Padbury ⁂ The lady in the lower right bears a likeness to an etched portrait by Robert Dighton the Elder, the sitter of which is purportedly the artist's first wife, Letitia Dighton [for an impression see BM no. 1850,0810.123]. The young central gentleman appears to be somewhat derivative of Robert Dighton the Elder's etched self-portrait of 1779.
