Browne ("Phiz"), half-title, errata leaf following list of plates; most plates with marginal discoloration and spotting, as usual. Publisher's fine diaper-grain olive cloth, covers paneled in blind with central arabesque, flat spine blind-paneled in five compartments, second and fourth gilt-lettered with title and author, yellow coated endpapers; spine very slightly faded, small patch of discoloration at front joint, inner hinges reinforced and recolored. Green morocco folding-case gilt.
First edition in book form, a fine, bright copy. In the preface to this novel in the 1869 Charles Dickens Edition, the author confessed, "Of all my books, I like this the best. It will be easily believed that I am a fond parent to every child of my fancy, and that no one can ever love that family as dearly as I love them. But, like many fond parents, I have in my heart of hearts a favourite child. And his name is DAVID COPPERFIELD."
