Variously in Cosway-style bindings of red, blue, brown or green morocco by Bayntun (Riviere) of Bath (one binding unsigned), 16 of the bindings with the upper covers with central inset original oval portrait miniatures (6 after Daniel Maclise of Dickens as a young man, one in middle-age and 8 of the author in his late 50s; one of the character 'Little Dombey'), all elaborately tooled in gilt, one with inset faceted glass, three with onlays of contrasting-coloured leather, gilt turn-ins, gilt edges. Half-title. 2 portraits, one expertly hand-coloured at a latere date, extra-illustrated with 6 portraits and 4 original watercolour drawings of Dicken's characters. Later Cosway-style red morocco gilt, the upper cover with central inset original oval portait miniature of Dickens, surrounded by decorative arabesque-work in gilt, lower cover with central panel of scrolling foliage, spine in six compartments with raised bands.
