FIRST EDITION IN ENGLISH. Henrey III, 1426; Hunt II pp.491-4. The first important book on garden design to appear in England. It deals extensively with the design and formation of fine gardens (known as pleasure-gardens) and the making of fountains and cascades. Henrey and ESTC call for 16 preliminary pages (the present copy has 14) but both note a variation in the preliminaries of the BL copy, pointing to the existence of more than one issue. The BL copy is without the privilege and errata leaves. Our copy has the privilege leaf, title, 2-leaf dedication, 2-leaf list of subscribers, and one-leaf table of contents.
