Engraved title-page, 40 engraved plates. 18th-century brown sheep gilt, sides with central coat-of-arms of Count Franz von Walsegg, upper cover gilt-lettered “Fr. Ant. S.R.I. Comes de Wallsegg MDCCLXVIII”, spine in 6 compartments with 5 raised bands, green morocco lettering-pieces in 2, the rest gilt-decorated (some light rubbing or wear, spine sunned). Provenance : Franz Anton von Walsegg (b.1740?) (binding dated 1768), whose library was acquired by: Liechtenstein Library (bookplate on pastedown). Second edition. Originally a painter, Dezallier d’Argenville developed an interest in natural history. Throughout his life and travels, he assembled one of the finest specimen cabinets in 18th-century France.
