DETECTIVE COMICS Nos. 298, 311, 400, 411 * Lot of 4 Comics with 1st Appearances Provenance: DC Universe Collection Publisher: DC [Indicia: National Periodical Publications, Inc.; ] Date Published: 1961-1971 Description: #298: Good+ (2.5). Spine stress, spine roll, ½" splits to spine ends, edgewear, corner creases, reseller's rubberstamp, soil spot to 1 page. Cream to light tan pages. Overstreet: "1st modern Clayface (Matt Hagen)." #311: Fair/Good (1.5). Cover detached at bottom staple and hanging on at top staple by a thin wisp of paper, spine 40% split, corner crease, reseller's rubberstamp, pencilled resale price and several discolored spots to back cover. Tan pages. Overstreet: "1st app: Cat-Man; intro Zook in John Jones " #400: G/VG (3.0). Moderate spine stress, slight staple pull, edgewear, corners creased, 2 reseller's rubberstamps and "3" written in marker on front cover, 1 page dogeared. Cream pages. Overstreet: "Origin & 1st app. Man-Bat; 1st Batgirl/Robin team-up." #411: VG- (3.5). Spine ticks, spine rubs, edge toning and wear, reseller's rubberstamp. Cream to off-white pages. Overstreet: "Intro Talia, daughter of Ra's al Ghul (Ra's mentioned, but doesn't appear until Batman #232)." Man-Bat in the Mix: “Regardless of his artist, O’Neil loaded up his issues with villains and trappings befitting his new, entirely nocturnal Batman: a variety of vengeful ghosts put in frequent appearances. Robbins also enjoyed injecting horror tropes into the books, as when he introduced the Jekyll/Hyde creature Man-Bat in Detective Comics #400 (June 1970).
