"The Delaware and Hudson embraces about eight hundred miles in its railroad system, and reaches a greater number of summer resorts and carries more tourists than any other railroad" (Appleton's Illustrated Hand-book of American Summer Resorts 1893, p. 17). The D & H began as a canal company, with the addition of the railroad in the early 1870s. The company lasted until 1991, when it was purchased by the Canadian Pacific Railway. rare.
