(Design at Home, 2nd June 2018) A 1960s-70s Czechoslovakian Exbor cased, cut and polished 'Fish' sculpture, designed by Stanislav Honzik and Josef Rozinek from 1958, in light blue, colourless and amber glass, the base with acid-etched 'II/a' factory mark, 22cm high The unusual 'II/a' mark appears on a very small number of Czech production designs, primarily from Novy Bor group factories. Its meaning is unconfirmed, but it does not appear to indicate a 'second' quality piece as it may suggest, as plenty of pieces that are visually obviously 'seconds' were unmarked. It may indicate a sample piece produced for consideration or approval by the government's design committees in existence at the time.
