Descartes - Leiden imprint] - GEULINCX, Arnold - Logica fundamentis suis a quibus hactenus collapsa fuerunt restituta. Leiden, H. Verbiest, 1662, 12mo, cont. blindst. vellum, flat spine, sp. edges, [24]-526-[2] pp. (ink stain in bottom margin of central quires). Very good copy.
Extr. rare orig. ed. of the first Cartesian treatise on logic in the Low Countries , written by the Antwerp-born Louvain and Leiden professor A. Geulincx (1624-1669), one of the early followers of Descartes who tried to work out more detailed versions of a generally Cartesian philosophy. Geulincx summarized his philosophy in the phrase “ita est, ergo ita sit” (“it exists, therefore it is so”). He was attacked by religious critics and by later philosophers, both parties classifying him as a Spinozist (and hence "atheist"). Woodcut diagrams on p. 177 and 223. Woodcut mark on title. Cont. ownership entry at bottom of title. Ref. Vander Haeghen (Geulincx) p. 221 & 222 (5 copies). BnF (1). Not in STCN, BL, NCC, Unicat. No copies in Dutch and Belgian libraries.
