Esther scroll, handsome scribal writing on high-quality parchment sheets. The margins are decorated with exquisite cutout designs. Whereas usually, Esther scrolls are adorned with vegetal decorations, this scroll has complex detailed decorations depicting figures and dozens of scenes from the Book of Esther: the figure of Queen Esther, Ahasuerus' banquet, Esther's and Ahasuerus' wedding, etc. The upper margins of the scroll are adorned with animal figures. The cutout designs were done according to an Esther Scroll originating in Holland, apparently from the 17th century. The scroll has an ivory-like handle. The of the scroll is covered with red silk fabric. Placed in an elaborate case. Parchment height: 24 cm. Good condition. The bottom part of the handle is broken.
