Decaisne, the author, was a Belgian botanist attached to the Natural History Museum at Paris, and he undertook to describe all the species and varieties of fruit in cultivation in their gardens. With 54 chromolithogr. plates. - Contemporary half calf, title to spine (some rubbing). - The magnificient and highly decorative plates illustrate over 200 pears , each with branch, the full and the cut open fruit. - Copy throughout with water spots and fungus or mildew spotting.
