London: John Murray 1865. 8° (213 x 135mm). Folding wood-engraved frontispiece and 12 plates. One lithographic map. Illustrations. (The map torn with severe loss, occasional thumb-soiling.) Contemporary red half calf and marbled boards, red speckled edges. FIRST EDITION, ASSOCIATION COPY with Stanley's Furze Hill bookplate. Hosken p. 126; Mendelssohn I, p. 915. D. LIVINGSTONE. Missionary Travels and Researches in South Africa . London: John Murray 1857. 8° (220 x 140mm). Folding wood-engraved frontispiece, engraved portrait, 23 wood-engraved plates, 2 folding engraved maps in rear pocket with Livingstone's routes printed in red. Illustrations. (Occasional thumb soiling.) Original brown embossed cloth by Edmonds and Remnants (extremities a little rubbed, inner hinges split). Provenance : J.B. Holroyd, purchased from Henry Young & Sons, Ancient and Modern Book Rooms, Liverpool, 28 December 1889, for 7/6d., with original invoice. Holroyd's initialled pencil notes indicate the dates, 4 January-5 February 1890, when each chapter was finished; some passages are also scored. FIRST EDITION.
