DARWIN ON THE "BEAGLE" IN THE FALKLAND ISLANDS A remarkable letter written during Darwin's historic five-year voyage as the naturalist accompanying H.M.S. Beagle , which vessel, commanded by Captain Fitzroy, had been assigned to complete a survey of Patagonia, Tierra del Fuego and the Chilean coast for the Admiralty. Darwin writes to an Englishman, Lumb, in whose home he had lodged at intervals during his stay in Buenos Aires from April 4 to July 5, 1832.
