Noddle Island or How are we decieved [sic]. [WITH:] Miss Carolina Sulivan. One of the obstinate daughters of America 1776 .
London: Darly, 12 May 1776; 1 September 1776. Together, 2 hand-colored engraved caricatures (each approximately 10 ½ x 8 inches, 265x200 mm). satirical hair prints regarding the american revolution. Darly, known for these prints of ridiculous wigs and hairstyles, here pokes fun at early British defeats in America. The first, with a pun in the title on General Howe's name, refers to the Battle of Chelsea Creek and Noddle Island at the end of May 1775. The latter print criticizes Sir Peter Parker's failed attempt to take Sullivan's Island at the entrance to Charleston, South Carolina harbor in June 1776. Scarce.
