Beschreibung:

single piece knobby tapered hardwood shaft with original varnish finish, carved and with inlaid red sealing wax Army of the Potomac Corps Badge, and W. Scott K 141 PV/Gettysburg July 1t-3d 1863 with engraved scroll work, with brass 1" ferrule, total length 34". Daniel W. Scott enlisted as a private in 1862 with Co. K 141 PVI, and had a very heroic battle record, suffering heavily at Fredericks burg, Chancellorsville and Gettysburg, where it lost nearly 70% of the men involved. Scott was promoted to Lt and transfered to 23rd U.S. Colored Troop Infantry in April of 64. This cane was likely carved at Gettysburg during the GAR National Encampment in 1892. Lot includes printed soldiers & unit history from Civil War Data Base. Condition: A couple of shrinkage lines typical of these canes, as they were nearly all cut from green wood on the battlefield and carved while green, else EXC.
