DAMPIER, WILLIAM. A Collection of Voyages. London: Printed for James and John Knapton 1729. 4 vols., 8vo, contemporary mottled calf, gilt spines, red and green leather spine labels, sprinkled edges, 3 labels defective, an outer joint cracked, wear at outer joints, ends of spines and some corners, some light browning. However, Dampier obviously did not write the whole work, and it includes the narratives of Lionel Wafer and William Funnell as well as the whole book of William Hacke...Dampier's accounts show him to have been a careful observer of everything affecting navigation and of the natural history of the lands he visited...Through his writings, Dampier made the profitable possibilities of the Pacific known"--Hill, pp. 77-78; Sabin 18373. Provenance : Richard Malone armorial bookplates. (4)
