The dedicatee, Daisy, whose mother was a close friend of Tessa Dahl, Roald Dahl's wife, and Sophie Dahl, Roald Dahl's granddaughter on whom the BFG is based would often come to their house for tea and to play. Daisy was given the book on her 5th birthday and signed both by Sophie and her grandfather Roald Dahl.
