Lot of 6 hard images, passed down through the family of Walter Raleigh Wood. One half plate daguerreotype portrait featuring a young girl holding a fan and standing next to a seated older woman wearing a bonnet and holding what appears to be either a book or a cased image in her lap. Housed in frame with subjects identified on verso as Mary Thornton Brown and Mary Anna Brown. One quarter plate daguerreotype portrait of a lovely young lady wearing a fur wrap, with mat marked for S. Root, New York, NY. housed in full pressed paper case. One sixth plate daguerreotype after a painting or illustration of a young gentleman, identified by modern note as possibly Walter Raleigh Wood I. Housed in full pressed paper case fully separated at spine. One sixth plate daguerreotype portrait of an unknown young gentleman with thick sideburns, housed under mat and glass. One sixth plate ambrotype portrait of a bearded gentleman, with mat marked, "90 Chatham" (possibly by Joseph Thwaites, who was listed at that address from 1856-1859). Housed under mat and glass. One sixth plate tintype portrait featuring three subjects including two young women wearing rather ornate outfits and hats and one young man wearing a suit, all identified by accompanying note as cousins, Samuel Foster McCleary Jr., Harriot Schaeffer, and Cornelia Walter McClear. Contained (but not under mat, glass, or preserver of any kind) with folded note in full pressed paper case. Lot also includes metal clasp, approx. 3 in. closed, inscribed "Marianna Wood."
