Bernardino and Catherine, arms of the Medici and Siena in the upper corners, text relating to the history of the Siena set along lower margin, the whole within an architectural frame surmounted by the inscription Abscondi non potest civitas supra montem posita . (Trimmed to plate mark, laid down and window-mounted, repairs to tears along old horizontal and vertical creases.) An interesting reworking of an important earlier view of Siena. Various details have improved and changed, particularly in the reworking of the shadows and various architectural details. The legend is Orlando Malavolta. (See also lot 1015.)
