CRUIKSHANK, GEORGE Bound volume containing four works London: George Cruikshank 1826-29. Consisting of Illustrations of Time 1827; Phrenological Illustrations, or an Artist's View of Craniological System of Doctors Gall and Spurzheim 1826; Scraps and Sketch. Parts I and II. 19th century oblong three-quarters calf, marbled sides. 10 1/2 x 14 1/2 inches (26.5 x 36.5 cm); the first work with uncolored title, six colored plates with multiple vignettes; the second title, text leaf and six hand-colored plates with five or more vignettes; the third title and six uncolored plates of vignettes, in mounted India proof state; the fourth title and six uncolored plates. Some binding wear, a sound clean copy overall, with a Cruikshank signature on an envelope and an engraving by Cruikshank after Woodward laid-in at the front. The second listed work is a satire on phrenology and the Gall and Spurzheim system that the latter had introduced to England some twelve years previous.
