Harry Crosby has added the epigraph '"il faut d'abord avoir soif"' below the title of the poem 'Brest' (an addition that was incorporated into the text of the second edition published in 1931) and corrected 'Translation of Lautréamont Preface a un Livre Futur' to 'Translation of Lautréamont's Preface à un Livre Futur', in the list of 'Books by the Same Author'. The frontispiece of the volume reproduces a portrait of Harry Crosby by the Russian artist Polia Chentoff (his sometime lover), which Caresse destroyed after Harry's death: 'I found [the painting] so metaphysically disturbing that I put it to the torch' (C.
