Red Skeletons was the first book to be printed for the Crosbys by Roger Lescaret and the first to be illustrated for the press by 'Alastair'. This copy was given to Richard Thoma and, following the gift, it was further inscribed for Thoma by the author and signed by the artist. Thoma--whom Harry refers to as 'Thoma of the four leaf clover' in Shadows of the Sun --was a writer and friend of the Crosbys and was commissioned by them to translate Marcel Proust's letters to Walter Berry, which Harry Crosby had inherited; following a dispute with Thoma, the Crosbys finished the translations themselves and Thoma's work was not credited when the letters were published by the Black Sun Press in 1930 (cf. 673). Loosely inserted is a broadsheet, 4° prospectus for the work, printed in red and black. Minkoff A4; Published in Paris p.407.
